Observation 7189: Hygrocybe punicea (Fr.) P. Kumm.
When: 2008-03-23
Herbarium specimen reported

Notes: Ok, not totally sure on these, they are a bit dried out and worn eaten. Like everything else up there this dry, dry week. But they have the yellow and orange colors of H. acutoconica. But they were found in the same place as a large fruiting of H. punicea from a week before. But they are laking the red colors of that one, and H. acutoconica is fairly common up there this time of year.

So, I’m leaning towards H. acutoconica, but these make me wonder if when H. punicea get old and dried out, it starts to look like this.
