According to Index Fungorum, Amanita solitaria and Amanita strobiliformis are synonyms. That’s incorrect. The cap of Amanita solitaria is covered with raised pyramidal warts that become less well defined and less frequent toward the margin. In contrast, the cap of Amanita strobiliformis is covered with large thick, but flat patches. Amanita solitaria and Amanita strobiliformis are two different species. The term Amanita solitaria is not obsolete.
