I found it in some redwoods on the UC Berkeley campus on a path behind Dwinelle Hall and south of the Life Science Building. It smells good, maybe almondy and slightly sweet. It has white gleba, and some is yellow. It was about 10" across.

apparently distinguish this puffball species. Mycoweb has a nice treatment of it.
