Notes: Growing in the litter near the base of a large sugar pine, yellow/amber staining, sweet (almondy) smelling. Diameter of pileus 5 cm. Center of pileus with a few scales – probably weather/moisture related. Upon slicing it open, the chocolate-brown, distorted gills and their thick covering were evident; see photo. The dried specimen is in my personal collection.
