Observation 73669: Boletus L.
When: 2011-08-08
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Scattered in mainly open areas with oak present. Except for the abundance of red on (most of) the stipes, B. pseudosensibilis fits. One large rather mature specimen had less red on the stipe.

Cap color varies from deep reddish brown to pale brick red with an ochre tint.

Bright yellow tubes bruise dark blue very quickly, and then the blue parts slowly fade to brown.

Context is whitish to pale yellow in the cap and yellow in the stipe, staining blue throughout. Taste not distinctive; odor not distinctive.

KOH reddish on cap and dark vinaceus/brown on context.
