will distinguish this species from most Gymnopus except G. polyphyllus whch also smells of garlic/onions.
I was about to say, well the quality of the cap surface, with elongated hyphae yadda, yadda… but in “A monograph of marasmioid and collybiois fungi in Europe”, Antonin and Noordeloos, 2010, it has this species listed as Gymnopus foetidus. So, the difference is nothing, there is no difference…
These apart from gymnopus species?
