Observation 73730: Phaeolus schweinitzii (Fr.) Pat.
When: 2011-08-09
No herbarium specimen

Notes: I found this Polypore? about 2 feet from the base of a pine tree. I think I could feel the stipe was growing from a surface root through leaf litter.

Recognized by sight: it looks like it could be an old P Schweinitzii, and its fruiting near a conifer like that is standard. It’s hard to be sure though.

A macro shot of the underside would help a lot.

What other observations?

zackm, what other observations could I make to narrow down the type? I’m still very new at this so I’m open to any commentary. Thanks
