Observation 73919: Boletus L.
When: 2011-08-13
No herbarium specimen

Notes: The second of the three red-and-yellow blue-staining bolete species I found at this location. The cap color of this one is areas of brown-red on a deep yellow background. Growing under old oaks.

1)The context blues instanly, but the color intensifies slowly over time.
2) Staining of the context and crossection of tubes with 3% KOH (aq); the color is darker on the tubes and stipe and less so on the pileus
Staining of the pileipellis (larger basidiocarp) with aqueous ammonia — bluish outside, vinaceous-red inside and browinish under the liquid
Staining of the pileipellis (smaller basidiocarp) with 3% KOH
