Observation 74044: Lobaria pulmonaria (L.) Hoffm.

When: 2011-08-14

Collection location: Hoh River Trail, Olympic National Park, Washington, USA [Click for map]

Who: Drew Henderson (Hendre17)

No specimen available

Found Everywhere in this rainforest on the ground, on trees and with moss.
It’s interesting to note how bright vibrant green and white these lung lichen are here in the deep woods. The specimens I find in Olympia and surrounding Thurston County are predominantly discolored and metallic looking(especially along the bus lines downtown). Lichens are definitely a great indicator for air quality for any given setting.

Temp: 60’s, sunny.
