Observation 74089: Pholiota terrestris Overh.

When: 2011-08-15

Collection location: Woodloch Pines Resort, Pennsylvania, USA [Click for map]

Who: I. G. Safonov (IGSafonov)

No specimen available

Growing in tight, but apparently not caespitose, clusters on ground near a dead tree. The moist pileus covered with pointy fibrillose scales (best seen in photo #3) is slippery. Young basidiocarps have a cottony partial veil, covering adnate or slightly subdecurrent gills, and fluffy “spikes” on the stipe (photo #3). Mature basdiocarps seem to lack a ring, but have cortina-like remnants on the stipe (see last 3 photos).
