I wish I saved it back then…

It took me three years to realize (because we don’t find it every year at FPP) that this mushroom is not just some obscure Pine Barrens variety of the regular R. griseus but actually a known species. Yes, I know, I should have checked B-R-B’s comments section a long time ago. Instead, MO was helpful in that regard — when I posted the collection from a few days ago and var. fuscus popped up as one of the choices…
