Observation 7461: Amanita ameripanthera group

When: 2008-05-05

Collection location: Oak Bottom Campground, Siskiyou Co., California, USA [Click for map]

Who: John Harlan (harlanx6)

No specimen available

The squirrels (or some unknown rodent)will typically taste these pantherinas which are very common in the Campground, as this specimen shows the bite marks, but they never consume the whole mushroom. I wonder if they are getting high from them?

is that partialy dried out? would it have been a more bright yellow if it was fresh? (as they are common there I would guess you see enough to know)
I just put some in the oven to kill off the maggots, they smell so good @ 350 deg. for 15min. (im being serious)
