Notes: Below and right of the prominent Xanthomendoza hasseana that is centered in the frame. Dark yellowish apothecia, smaller, darker, and less orange than X. hasseana’s; no evident thallus, so this may be crusty and blending in with the bark behind it.

On a standing quaking aspen in Zone 14.

The thallus for this one hides under the bark? How does it photosynthesize in there?
