A consequence of not fully debriefing all forayers ahead of time on the virtues of proper collection and care of specimens meant an abundance of badly-handled finds like these (a canvas bag can only do so much). This one was noted for having pronounced purple discoloration on the surface of the pileal context tissue just beneath the cap cuticle.
In high montane mixed spruce/fir forest, ~10,000-11,000 ft.
Collected for the 4th Annual Eagle Mushroom Festival.
