Recognized by sight: The purple tinges could indicate Laccaria amethystina, but i think that there is no evidence yet that this European species occurs in North America, so we’ll leave it at Laccaria sp.
Definitely a Laccaria though – dull colours, pale when dried out (as in this specimen), and contrasting gills. Look at the spores under the scope!
