So in a sense it is a duplicate, I would of proposed another name if that was possible…

ah, proof positive!

we need more light thrown on our general concept of Pycnoporellus? Now that’s the most sensible thing that I have heard here in a while!

the observations

are from different years, 2008 and 2011.

unrelated: the more I look around MO, the more I see things going by Pycnoporellus which maybe shouldn’t. we need poroid fungi people.

is different than the one here from Eagle Mush Fest, I believe, unless the same sample did double duty? I kind of doubt it, though.

But at least folks can get an idea of what a Pycnoporellus alboluteus from CO within that same time frame actually looks like!

I would suggest to also check out some of the spectacular images of this sp. from the way wetter PNW, like either Hugh Smith’s or my photos. It is hard to believe that it is the same mushroom!

This fruit body was larger than my outstretched arms:

I don’t think that any of us are perfectly consistent in our voting records. Sometimes we feel the need to add a “little English” to our votes, on both sides of our philosophical divides.

Why is your confidence level for the obs 246719 “Promising” while this observation is “I’d call it that”? Is it simply because you wish to avoid your own Imageless rules?

ah well, that’s what it looks like alright!

but it’s a pity, because the contrast between coastal and interior forms of this interesting fungus are quite striking, and some still don’t have a good species concept for this.

exist as a record to populate a checklist. there is no accompanying image. this is intentional.
