Standard-issue unidentifiable red woodland Russula, in Zone 45 North. Tallish, centrally-depressed cap, in relatively okay condition. Trees nearby are the “prime” mix: aspen, birch, and maple with smaller quantities of pine and fir.
There were numerous red and red-orange Russulas around, and plenty of miscellaneous boletes, most in poorer condition. There was also one possible R. laurocerasi (no observation) and some possible section compactae instances, and one cf. nigricans (no observation). Russulas, in short, were out in force.
