Observation 75736: Leccinum variicolor Watling
When: 2011-09-08
(53.0° -2.0° )
No herbarium specimen

Notes: The species is a Leccinum though much of the stalk had been browsed by slugs.
The flesh colour changed only very slowly to a blue rim towards the base, which would match Leccinum variicolor. Two specimens with caps about 12 cm in diameter were growing together under Poplars. No pore staining or of cap flesh.

In the field before it darkened in the overnight photo, the cap was light brown.
Spore print brown.
