Notes: This unusual piece of lichen was found on the forest floor during the last drought, about 8 months ago, It apparently was well up in the canopy (sub tropical forest) and was dislodged by falling elk horns. Due to the long and extreme drought many elk horns were on the forest floor and others were still falling. Some of these weighed in excess of 500kls. The lichen’s texture was quite strong and almost had a plastic feeling to it. There were several colours also in the lichen. There did not appear to be any root system where it might have been attached that I could identify. It probably weighed about 200grams and was still moist when found.
