Observation 76885: Amanita sect. Validae (Fr.) Singer
When: 2011-09-14
No herbarium specimen

Notes: This all-yellow Amanita sp. with pyramidal cap warts is likely from section Validae. The closest matches I could find are A. flavoconia and A. flavorubescens.

Taken without a flash on a cloudy day; the pine tree these were growing under filtered out even more light, making the image rather dark. The actual colors are more yellow.

Taken with a flash. The colors are thus more vivid than they should be.

is to propose “flavorubens” (which I believe is the same species as flavorubescnes… or at least the new name for the eastern NA version). But without seeing the stipe base, this is a tough call. Reddish brown staining of flavorubens is often most evident in/on the stipe base.
