This is the first one I’ve seen so I don’t know how it compares to others. I don’t know how to tell the host mushroom, but there were lots of lactarius mushrooms in the area, I’m not sure what species. Have you been to Mount Tom? It’s full of mushrooms and sort of what got me interested.

really that yellow at the base? any ideas as to host mushroom?
