Dan, looking at the stature of your collection, at first I thought that you’ve lost your sense of reason since you graduated a philosopher, but indeed, the color of the gills is very red. This is one of the stranger and beefier C. semisanguineus out there. With a bulbous stem, wow. If you find more material that supports that stature then we’ve got an interesting species.

The gills look like they should be in the genus Cortinarius, perhaps subgenus Democybe.
