I can’t believe I did not photograph the gills, oh well, it was fungi overload that weekend. The only reason I thought H. psitticina is the translucent slimpy cap with the gills visible from above. I have seen this only rarely in Hygrocybe so I appreciate Irene’s suggestions for future research.

at least ceracea occurs i North America (as subceracea), so why not glutinipes, (maybe with another name).

Now, if the gills are yellow and notched, psittacina without any green is a possibility.
With gills yellow and decurrent, it could be vitellina.
If the gills are white and more or less adnate, then my suggestion is ceracea or glutinipes.

thanks Irene…

for a more helpful comment than mine!

here’s a link to a nice treatment of H. ceracea: http://tinyurl.com/3e2gw2z

Did you peek at the gill color, Martin?

Do we know that H. ceracea (or glutinipes) even occurs in NA?

ceracea (or glutinipes if the stem is as slimy as the cap..). A gill shot would have been helpful, of course.

welcome to the wonderful world of Hygrocybe ID, Martin…

ooops, sorry. was I screaming again?

probably not psittacina, at any rate, although that mushroom can be quite a chameleon.
I have never seen a yellow psittacina: pink, green, tan, turquoise, sure, but heck, I haven’t seen everything, everywhere. Just ask my friends. ;)
