Observation 81242: Cortinarius violaceus (L.) Gray
When: 2011-10-30
Herbarium specimen reported

Notes: Growing under Pinus virginiana, scattered. I believe there were a few young species of Acer around as well, but the area was predominantly Pinus virginiana.
There was a purple gel/slime on the bases of the mushrooms. On the older specimens, the gel/slime stuff faded to a lighter purple.

KOH reaction:

Pileus: Orange-Red
Pilear Trama: Red
Stipe (outer layer): Red
Stipe Trama – apex: Red, base: Red with an Orange hue

I measured 20 spores from the spore print.
“Roughened”, I guess, would be how you would describe the texture of these spores. They also have a small apiculus.
