Observation 81503: Lactarius Pers.
When: 2011-10-21
Collection location: Thoiry, France [Click for map]
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Found under oaks, beech, fir.

Latex white, stains purple. gills decurrent, cap lightly viscid, stipe non-viscid. Cap green in KOH. Taste mild.

Ok, there were a number of L. flavidus obs. on the hill side this day, mostly in ones, some small groups. But there was these, a small group of three. They seem different, the caps are slightly darker, gills slightly decurrent, no evidence of inrolled margins. Also they are not as viscid as the L. flavidus. Getting them home, they turn out to go green in KOH. I wish I got a better photo there, you can see the green on the upper right side of the cap in the posed shot. But it doesn’t turn out the well, or seen that clearly. Also the taste here is consistently mild, not acrid at all. Not to see if there are any microscopic differences, and go to the book to see how this might work out between L. flavidus, L. uvidus and others.
