Observation 8173: Ganoderma australe (Fr.) Pat.
When: 2008-07-02
No herbarium specimen
0 Sequences

Notes:
This bracket fungi reminded me of some Science Fiction Starship. It was quite large and living on the shaded side of a very old and large fallen tree trunk. It was about 25-30 cm by 20cm wide. These images were taken with a normal lens. (ie not wide angle)

Recognized by sight: It looks like Ganoderma applanatum (artist’s conk), but there are at least 20 different species of Ganoderma in Australia. Knowing what it grows on can be helpful.

Recognized by sight: I don’t think Ganoderma applanatum extends to Australia (more of a Northern mushroom), G.australe is more likely suspect.
