I wasn’t familiar with this genus until you brought up the name Colpoma. It looks like an European genus, since most of the descriptions are from Europe. I found several species, including C.juniperi, C.crispum and C.quercinum. They all look slightly different. But on the other hand, there might be other species too. The specimen in question here does look like the images of C.juniperi I’ve come across. Considering that Juniperus communis is a circumglobal plant, and the twigs here do look like they might be Juniperus, I’ve decided to call it C.juniperi. I’ve found an article claiming that the species could exist in the USA, but could be confused with Coccomyces petersii too. I haven’t found any images of the latter to compare. I’m waiting for someone to offer more details on this genus or challenge my ID. Meanwhile, I’ve got an interesting PDF paper from Italy describing Colpoma and related genera. I can’t read Italian, but photos in there can come handy.
