Compare to Amanita “breckonii”…

Our super common A. “breckonii” non Thiers & Ammirati is a relatively close phylogenetic relative of this one. They also look alike to a major extent.

No wonder our A. “breckonii” species does not seem to be distributed much to the North — this is part of the California mycoflora influenced by the Southern floristic regions.
