Observation 83584: Tremella mesenterica Retz.
When: 2011-11-26
(37.983682° -122.155437° )
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Found on an oak twig (a hardwood) which suggests the genus Tremella, rather than Dacrymyces which grows on pine. Collection became very hard when dried, a characteristic described by Aurora in Demystified.

George Washington for size comparison.
Booger close-up. Eww!
400x magnification. Sample has been stained in phloxine and washed with KOH. Spores and hyphae visible. I was searching for basidium as a diagnostic tool to genus (cruciately septate for Tremella and tuning fork for Dacrymyces), to no avail.
