Observation 83953: Suillus Gray

No herbarium specimen

Notes: Viscid cap that does not peel off readily.

These were collected and eaten by some Russian friends – were apparently quite good but this is the best photo they had. The location was between Calistoga and St. Helena, in a State Park (oops!). They didn’t recall the name but looking at a map it looks to be Bothe-Napa Valley State Park. From their website looks to be Douglas-fir, tanoak, and madrone so my guess would be S. lakei. Fire away…
