Hypoxylon?

Unfortunately, I didn’t realise right away how dark it was there and didn’t set correct settings on my camera, resulting in blurry images, even though I used macro light.
First I thought it was a lichen, but now I lean towards fungus. It could be some kind of hypoxylon-like crust (or phellinus?), but the host is a fairly young and healthy tree. I feel I’ll have to find those trees and re-examine the fungus (lichen?) at some point, and make better photos.
