Observation 84264: Cortinarius subgenus Phlegmacium (Fr.) Fr.

When: 2011-11-27

Collection location: Carmel Valley, Monterey Co., California, USA [Click for map]

Who: Christian (Christian Schwarz)

Specimen available

KOH wine-red on the cap, no reaction on flesh, flesh purple and gills purple beneath surface (I interpreted this as staining at first, but I think it was innate color). Only issue with C. lilaciotinctus I can find is lack of KOH rxn on flesh.

this with Dimitar today, I think the lack of pink KOH reaction on flesh (darker wine on cap) rules out C. lilaciotinctus
