I am unable to tell whether the tree in the photo is hardwood or not, one commenter says it looks a bit more like hardwood. To me the mushroom looks morphologically similar to Ganoderma curtisii. The shape of the conks, the yellow coloring, as well as its southern location (which is not as important as previously thought).

I was told on another mushroom website that this is Ganoderma tsugae, the person said that this was a hemlock tree they were fruiting from but they could have been mistaken. Does anybody have any good tea recipes for these, if so please post them in the comments for this species section. I usually just boil a few specimens up and add agave nectar its still kinda bitter but not to bad this way.

Hey, after looking at the tree it looks more like a hardwood of some type. If so you probably want to go with lucidum as the species.
