this will have to be the American species rather than the European one. I notice that there have been trends toward calling this var. flavivolvata and then going back toward subsp. _flavivolvata. I’m hoping to get the new name out in 2012: Amanita amerimuscaria.

I particularly like the second picture which shows the yellow universal veil below the broadest part of the developing cap. Presumably it has seen the least sunlight and faded the least.
