but they were old. The one from coastal CA has been called var. canadensis… but there wasn’t enough to go on from this picture (and I didn’t collect them)to be sure

I think you are in the same position as we were in Scandinavia 30 years ago, before the finns sorted out and described 4 new species from what we used to call scrobiculatus..
