Recognized by sight: characteristic species with tiny spines/warts at the surface that change color from white to brownish during aging. Usually on conifers rarely on hardwood. Here it was on pine. Common but overlooked.
Used references
Based on microscopic features: Very characteristic are the very beautiful starlike resinous encrustations and the cap-like halocystidia in combination with smooth allantoid to suballantoid spores.
