Notes: Probably the coolest mushroom that I encountered on my trip East. Never would have noticed it (or recognized it as a fungus) without Coleman’s sharp eyes!

They grow on bits of wood

This specimen was about the size of a fifty cent piece. They are not easy to see when you are standing up; I imagine finding them is mostly a serendipitious event. They have the charming common name of “fairy sparklers.”
