Notes: This could be Sarcoscypha occidentalis, but the lack of a clear stem (possibly a limitation of the photo, not the mushroom) is giving me pause. I do remember it falling apart when I tried to pick it. It is certainly much broader in proportion to the stem that must have been there than the typical S. occ.The underside looks complex for a non-fertile surface. As this is an Ascomycete the red surface is the location of the asci.., right?
