This intensely acrid whitish Russula in the /emetica clade is fairly abundant in the high Sierra under lodgepole pine. It is frequently co-located with Russula bicolor/emetica, but is not the same. Some western collectors have named these Russula raoultii, but it is not exactly the European species. The best match for the Yosemite collection is “Uncultured ectomycorrhiza (Russula) clone ECUBC40” (GenBank: EU057106) from British Columbia. Mike Davis r07010 from the coast is one basepair away.
