Observation 87463: Cortinarius subgenus Telamonia (Fr.) Trog

When: 2011-10-15

Collection location: Yosemite National Park, California, USA [Click for map]

Who: Dimitar Bojantchev (dimitar)

Specimen available

This little Telamonia is apparently is so obscure that nobody in the PNW put the effort to bend over and collect it… My collection matches nothing locally. The only thing closely related is a species collected on a root tip by some dudes in Sweden (GenBank: AF481376): “Vertical distribution of ectomycorrhizal root tips in a podzol soil profile”

This is what you get with small brown, moss-dwelling, montane corts…

Looks like the Alaska sequence is just three nucleotides away. Interestingly the next closest match is from Iran, but further, with 15 differences from your sequence. I have heard that the mushroom hunting is pretty good in some parts of Iran.

Looks like there is a possible sequence match in Alaska
