Observation 87475: Cortinarius elegantior group

When: 2011-10-16

Collection location: Yosemite National Park, California, USA [Click for map]

Who: Dimitar Bojantchev (dimitar)

Specimen available

Recently Garnica & Ammirati described two new members of the Cortinarius elegantior clade from Western North America – Cortinarius elegantio-occidentalis and Cortinarius elegantio-montanus. The collection here is a slightly different genotype. There is also another member of that clade from the southern Sierra Nevada.

This collection is not particularly revealing as it is overaged, but the reddish reaction to KOH at the base of the stipe is quite typical for this group.
