This Yosemite collection was a surprise – very close to Cortinarius napus — but even closer to a local representative of that clade Cortinarius subpurpureophyllus var. sulphureovelatus which was not immediately obvious.
Anyway, this is a limited collection in terms of the number of developed carpophores, but still an important data point to keep a close watch on. It demonstrates the tremendous diversity of the genus and that Yosemite has a good representation of it.
