Observation 8828: Tylopilus rubrobrunneus Mazzer & A.H. Sm.
When: 2008-08-05
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Some cute bolete buttons. Yellow stem and brown cap is a mystery to me.

Proposed Names

28% (1)
Recognized by sight: Many Boletus buttons have swollen bases with reticulated stipes (stalks). And as you note, these do seem to be Bolete buttons.

Walt Sundberg has been doing this for a loooong time, and has no doubt seen these mushrooms in many guises. but if you must have a photo, check out page 345 in the Bessetts bolete book (North American Boletes), which shows young material with the reddish-purple-brown cap and yellow-green stipe.
