The system was preventing a spelling change from Rosellinea thelena to Rosellinia thelena, because somebody deprecated the genus name Rosellinia without designating a preferred synonym. As soon as I approved the genus name Rosellinia it allowed me to correct the spelling of the species name.

I don’t know if this is a bug, or if it is an intentional property of the naming system included to discourage erroneous spelling changes to species names.

…the bug, not the name. :) I don’t think is the first time I have seen it happen. And I thought you could still propose deprecated names?

I usually don’t mess with the names, but I figured I would take care of this myself rather than bother Nathan and Jason.

The names are now right – Rosellinea is deprecated in favor of Rosellinia on grounds that the first name is misspelled.

Hi Robert,

I was also unable to edit the spelling. The error message said:

“The alternate spelling you entered is not recognized.
No changes made.”

This seems like a strange error message. If the spelling is currently incorrect, then obviously the new spelling is not yet recognized.

I think the fungus shown here is probably something different anyway. I’m fascinated by the association with Sarcoscypha austriaca/ Sarcoscypha dudleyi. Whenever I find scarlet cups, these little black guys are always present.

Rosellinia. I tried to fix it myself, but my changes aren’t accepted by the system.
