Observation 8850: Hydnum umbilicatum Peck

When: 2003-11-03

Collection location: Cape Lookout State Park, Tillamook Co., Oregon, USA [Click for map]

Who: Daniel B. Wheeler (Tuberale)

No specimen available

Collection was found in bog-like conditions near Cape Lookout State Park, Tillamook County, Oregon. Largest specimen was approximately 2.75 inches long x 3/4 inch wide at the cap. Mycorrhizal with Sitka spruce, I believe, but found near Evergreen huckleberry, Red alder, Westrn hemlcok and Douglas fir as well. Other than being small, it was quite tastey. I recommend pairing it with bacon or proscuitto.
