never been to California so I am not in a right position to comment about I. sororia. But there is a similar pair here in Europe with I. rimosa vs. I. obsoleta. And a third one called I. umbrinella (I think I posted obs. of these here). And I think they are just giant forms of I. rimosa, but I am not sure about for I am no specialist in Inocybe. I just like them more than other brownspored genera which doesn’t mean I ID all of them right :)
