but when I cultured it (grew it in a moist chamber) it did not really change shape. The peridium was thin with a slight bloom. Spores were globose and smooth, medium sized. Very few elaters observed.

This looks like a plasmodial stage

and I do not see how to ID a plasmodium. Even the mature stage of myxos need a scope to be sure of an ID except a few.
