I don’t know if you saw my other posts, but I was on the Appalachian Trail in what seemed to be perfect conditions – but no dice.
These were on the base of a dead elm at the top a recently strip-mined hill at Egypt Valley wild life area. I was there with my dad hoping to find some early season morels. We did not find any morels, but we did find this beautiful cluster of Polyporus squamosus right as we were leaving the woods on the way back to the car. I was surprised to see such well developed specimens. I was in Athens (quite a bit further south) 2 days prior, and I only saw thumb-sized buttons there.
have it here yet. I can’t believe you were back there this past weekend.
