Recognized by sight: This is not an example of the type which is sometimes called “elata” (Black Morel). The small morel seen in this obs is often called a “gray”. In the past this type has been lumped in with the other North American gray/yellow morels. In the older NA manuals it may be called M esculenta. Many eastern NA morel hunters refer to these small type as “deliciosa” or “tulip morels.”
