Notes: Found on rocky hill overlooking a creek with steady seep of water running across it. Could this be Dermatocarpon luridum, or something else?

Difficult genus

Could be D. moulinsii (rhizines below), D. tomentulosum (tomentose below), D. muehlenbergii / D. arenosaxii / D. dolmiticum (naked below).

Note that D. luridum turns distinctly green when wet like this. I can convince myself there are a few hints of green here and there, but that doesn’t count. Expect to find that species in the creek, not on rocks above it. (Seeps can dry up some years, that doesn’t count, either.)
